David joined the Inland Revenue in 1976 as a tax inspector and left 11 years later as a senior principal, in the interim working in roles as diverse as district inspector and training investigators. He joined Berg Kaprow Lewis in 1991 to head the tax function and has since built a team that offers clients both extensive tax expertise and the ability to communicate complex tax issues in plain English.

He sits on, and has previously chaired, the tax panel of the UK200Group of chartered accountants. He is the principal author of our e-mail tax newsletter BrassTax®, writes for the professional press and is a popular speaker at seminars. A member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, he was awarded fellowship of the institute for his book, Taxation of Company Reorganisations. David was recently called to the Bar in Lincolns Inn.

He claims, implausibly, that a study of taxation yields him considerable intellectual pleasure; and, less implausibly, that most people and businesses pay more tax than they need to.
