It's not just you: coal-face views on HMRC's senior management
HMRC's senior management has come in for some pretty public criticism in recent weeks. So HMRC's most recent staff survey makes interesting if depressing reading, amounting as it does to a resounding vote of no-confidence in the top brass. It appears that over 80% of HMRC employees feel that HMRC is not well managed and have no confidence in decisions made by HMRC's senior managers - presumably the other 20% are the managers. Fewer than one in five would recommend HMRC as a great place to work or feel motivated to help achieve the department's objectives. Just 13% think that when change happens it is usually for the better. And, worryingly, only 1 employee in 4 thinks it safe to challenge the way things are done.
Perhaps next time you are tearing your hair out at HMRC's failings, you should bear in mind that things could be worse.
You could work there.
